I was removed from a workspace. How do I get my access back?

What happens to your gammas when you're removed from or leave a Gamma workspace, and how to get access back.

Introduction

If you were removed from a Gamma workspace, or you left one, you may suddenly lose access to gammas you used to open, including ones you created. This guide explains what changed and how to get your access back.

🌀 Insight: Your gammas aren't deleted when you're removed. What you can still open depends on how you were removed.

What Can I Still Access?

If an admin converted you to a guest

  • You keep access to every gamma you created or were directly invited to.

  • You lose access to gammas you could only open through a folder.

If an admin chose Remove all access, or you left the workspace

  • You lose access to every gamma in the workspace, including the ones you created.

  • The same thing happens if your company removes you through its single sign-on (SSO) or user provisioning system.

How to Get Your Access Back

Step 1: Ask a workspace admin to invite you again

Once you accept the invite, you're a member again, and you can open any gamma that's shared with the whole workspace.

Step 2: Contact support about gammas that were private to you

Gammas that were only shared with you don't come back when you're re-invited. They're still in the workspace, but you can't open them yourself. Contact our support team with the workspace name and the titles or links of the gammas you need.

For Admins: How to Remove Someone Without Locking Them Out

  1. Go to Settings > Members.

  2. Click Remove from workspace next to the person.

  3. Choose Convert to guest instead of Remove all access.

They'll keep access to their own gammas and anything they were directly invited to. If you invite them back later, they become a full member again with that access intact. Folder access is removed either way, so add them back to any folders afterward.

FAQs & Common Issues

Were my gammas deleted?

  • No. Removing someone from a workspace never deletes their gammas. They stay in the workspace.

I joined my company's workspace. What happened to my personal gammas?

  • Nothing. Your original workspace and its gammas stay exactly where they were, even if both workspaces use the same email address.

  • Switch between your workspaces by clicking your initials or logo at the bottom-left of the sidebar.

Can a workspace admin open my private gammas after I'm removed?

  • No. Admins can't see gammas that were private to you, and there's no way to transfer them to someone else yourself.

Why can't I leave my workspace?

  • You can't leave if you're the workspace's only Admin. Make another member an Admin first.

  • You can't leave if you're the billing admin (the person the subscription is under), or if the workspace is managed by your organization. Contact our support team or your organization's admin.

I can't sign in at all. Is that the same thing?
