Introduction
Enterprise, Business, and legacy Team workspaces are managed by a company or organization rather than an individual. In practice, this means the organization, acting through its workspace admins, controls access, settings and content in the workspace, including private gammas.
🔷 Note: The Team plan is no longer available to new customers. If you're in an existing Team workspace, this article applies to you.
What workspace admins can do
Admins of an Enterprise workspace can:
See titles of all the gammas in the workspace, including private gammas.
Access private gammas under specific circumstances. Admins may access content you create in the workspace, including private gammas, for legal, security, compliance, offboarding or other reasons.
Reassign gammas, including private gammas, to another member. Admins can assign a private gamma to themselves or to another member of the workspace. This is most common when someone leaves the company and their work needs to continue, but admins can change the permissions of existing member content as well.
Restore, copy or retain gammas deleted by workspace members.
Request an export of all workspace data. Admins can obtain a full export of the workspace, which includes private gammas.
🔷 Note for Business and Team workspaces: The self-serve admin tools above are available on the Enterprise plan. Business and Team workspaces don't include them, but the organization still controls workspace content. Admins can contact Gamma Support to request actions like these, which are handled case by case. If you're a member of a Business or Team workspace, you should assume your organization can access and manage the content you create there, including private gammas, in the ways described above.
What "private" means in a managed workspace
In an Enterprise, Business or Team workspace, a private gamma isn't visible to other members or available in search. However, your organization (represented by the workspace admins) can access private content in specific situations, such as legal, security, or offboarding needs, or through a full workspace export. A private gamma is still content controlled by your organization.
🌀 Insight: A good rule of thumb: treat everything you create in a company workspace the way you'd treat files on a company laptop or a work email account.
Workspace guests
If you've been invited into an Enterprise, Business or Team workspace as a guest, say, a contractor building a presentation for a client, everything above applies to you too. The workspace admins can revoke your access.
