Introduction
Headers and footers let you add consistent elements — like your company name, a logo, or page numbers — to the top or bottom of every section in your gamma. They're especially useful when creating branded decks, navigable PDFs, and confidential documents. Use this article to add and configure headers and footers, adjust display settings, and control visibility on individual sections.
💎 Pro Tip: Headers and footers are only available on the Pro plan and above.
How to Add Headers and Footers
Step 1: Open the Slide Styling menu
Click the palette icon in the top toolbar of any slide to open the Slide Styling menu.
Step 2: Open Headers & footers
In the Slide Styling menu, click Edit next to Headers & footers. The Headers & footers modal will open.
🌀 Insight: You can also access Headers & footers by clicking Page setup at the bottom of the same menu.
Step 3: Navigate to All sections
The Headers & footers modal opens to the This section tab by default. If you haven't added any elements yet, this tab will appear blank — click All sections to get started.
Once you have elements set up, you can use these two tabs to manage your headers and footers:
All sections — Add and configure elements that appear throughout your entire gamma.
This section — Control visibility for the currently selected section only.
Step 4: Add an element
In the All sections tab, you'll see six + buttons — three along the top (left, center, right) and three along the bottom. Click the + in the position where you'd like to place an element, then choose from the Add element menu:
Text — Enter custom text, such as your company name or a confidentiality note.
Section numbers — Add auto-numbered page indicators (also referred to as slide numbers or page numbers) that increment as viewers move through your gamma.
Theme logo — Pull in the logo set in your gamma's theme.
Image upload — Upload your own image or logo (PNG or SVG recommended).
Step 5: Configure your element
Each element type is configured differently once added.
Text — Type directly into the text field. No additional settings are available.
Section numbers — Click the 1, 2, 3... bar to open settings:
Display starting on — Choose whether numbers appear from the first, second, or a custom section.
Start counting from — Set the starting number (default: 1).
Theme logo — Click the sliders icon to open settings:
Image size — Choose from S, M, L, or XL.
Click Reset size to return to the default size.
🌀 Insight: To switch between the light and dark versions of your theme logo, navigate to the This section tab, click the sliders icon, and use the sun and moon icons to toggle logo variants. This is useful for ensuring your logo is legible against different section backgrounds.
Image upload — Click the sliders icon to open settings:
Image size — Choose from S, M, L, or XL.
Click Replace image to swap out your uploaded image.
Step 6: Adjust display settings
Click the All sections dropdown at the top right of the modal to access display settings for your headers and footers:
Hide on first section — Suppresses all header and footer elements on your opening section.
Hide on last section — Suppresses all header and footer elements on your final section.
Align to content margins — Snaps elements to the content edge rather than the full section width.
Controlling Visibility on Individual Sections
To hide headers and footers on a specific section without removing them from the rest of your gamma, navigate to that section and open Headers & footers. From the This section tab:
Click the eye icon in the center to hide or show all header and footer elements on that section at once.
Click the eye icon next to an individual element to hide or show just that element on this section.
This is useful for hiding page numbers on a title slide, or suppressing your logo on one specific section.
