How do I edit my content with AI?

How to use Agent to edit text and images in Gamma, extract content from images, and much more

Introduction

Generating your gamma is just the start. Agent stays with you after generation, so you can refine, restyle, and fix anything without starting over.

In the new Gamma, editing with Agent has been rebuilt. Agent now keeps your original goal in context while you edit, so targeted fixes stay true to what you set out to create. Ask for a small change and Agent fixes just that, without reworking the rest of your gamma.

Here is what Agent can do for you:

  • Refine everything: Drop in links to webpages, blog posts, articles, and screenshots, and Agent incorporates and visualizes them seamlessly.

  • Restyle instantly: Transform your entire gamma's look with a simple request.

  • Research anything: Ask Agent to search the web and pull in citations to support your points.

🌀 Insight: Agent editing is also supported on mobile.

How to Edit Content Using Agent

Step 1: Open Agent

You can start an edit from several places:

  • Open the Agent panel and type your request directly.

  • Switch from manual editing to Agent mode in the top left of the toolbar, then click any block or element on the canvas to send a request right there.

  • Click the sparkle icon on a slide to edit that slide.

  • Select text and click the sparkle icon in the formatting menu.

  • Keyboard shortcut: CMD+E on Mac, CTRL+E on Windows.

Step 2: Select What You Want to Edit

You can edit at any level, from your whole gamma down to a single element:

  • Whole gamma or slide: Describe the change in the Agent panel, for example "Make the tone more formal across all slides."

  • A specific element: Switch from manual editing to Agent mode in the top left of the toolbar, then select an element on the canvas to open an inline composer and describe your change right where you are working.

💎 Pro Tip: The more specific your selection, the more targeted the fix. Selecting a single element tells Agent exactly where to focus.

Step 3: Tell Agent What to Change

Once Agent is open, it can do the following for you:

  • Read URLs. For example, "Take this article about company X and create a slide about them."

  • Make edits across all slides at once for consistent updates.

  • Change the theme of the presentation with a simple request.

  • Extract info from images. For example, screenshot an Excel table and ask Agent to recreate it in Gamma so it looks on-brand instead of like an Excel screenshot.

  • Add slides. For example, "Add an executive summary."

  • Fix spelling and grammar for better readability.

  • Translate text into another language.

  • Summarize content into a concise version.

  • Use custom commands with specific instructions (e.g., "Make this more formal").

  • Search the web for real-time information.

Step 4: Review and Apply Changes

  1. Review Agent's proposed edits in the before and after preview.

  2. Accept the changes, or discard them if you want to go a different direction. Changes from a single request are applied together, you cannot pick and choose individual edits.

  3. If needed, refine your request and try again. Agent remembers your original goal, so follow-up fixes stay consistent with what you asked for at the start.

FAQs & Common Issues

Do I have to regenerate my gamma to fix one thing I don't like?

  • No. Ask Agent for a targeted fix, or switch into Agent mode and select the element you want to change. Agent edits just that part while keeping the rest of your gamma intact.

Will Agent's edits match the rest of my gamma?

  • Yes. Agent keeps your original goal in context while editing, so fixes stay consistent with the content and style you started with.

Why isn't Agent editing my content? / Why can't I send a message to Agent?

  • Ensure you have an active internet connection.

  • Agent does not respond while content is being generated, wait for the process to finish.

Can I edit Agent generated content manually?

  • Yes! After Agent makes edits, you can further refine them manually.

Can Agent format my text (bold, italics, lists, etc.)?

  • Absolutely! Agent can apply text formatting for you.

  • In the new Gamma, Agent can also make font and color changes as part of an edit, and theme-level changes only affect the current gamma thanks to file themes.

How long does my chat history with Agent last?

  • Your chat history with Agent is saved and does not expire.

  • For very long conversations, Agent automatically condenses older messages so it can keep working without losing the thread. You do not need to clear or restart your chat.
