Generating your gamma is just the start. AI editing stays with you after generation, so you can refine, restyle, and fix anything without starting over.
In the new Gamma, AI editing has been rebuilt. The AI now keeps your original goal in context while you edit, so targeted fixes stay true to what you set out to create. Ask for a small change and the AI fixes just that, without reworking the rest of your gamma.
Here is what AI editing can do for you:
Refine everything: Drop in links to webpages, blog posts, articles, and screenshots, and the AI incorporates and visualizes them seamlessly.
Restyle instantly: Transform your entire gamma's look with a simple request.
Research anything: Ask the AI to search the web and pull in citations to support your points.
Note: AI editing is available in Gamma 5, which is now in public beta and rolling out to all users. AI editing is also supported on mobile.
How to Edit Content with AI
Step 1: Open AI Editing
You can start an edit from several places:
Open the chat area on the left and type your request directly.
Use the toggle in the top left of the editor to switch to AI editing mode, then click any element you would like to edit with AI. It will show as selected in the left chat area.
Click the sparkle icon on a slide to edit that slide.
Select text and click the sparkle icon in the formatting menu.
Keyboard shortcut: CMD+E on Mac, CTRL+E on Windows.
Step 2: Select What You Want to Edit
You can edit at any level, from your whole gamma down to a single element:
Whole gamma or slide: Describe the change in the chat area, for example "Make the tone more formal across all slides."
A specific element: Switch to AI editing mode with the toggle in the top left of the editor, then click the elements you would like to edit with AI. They will show as selected in the left chat area, so you can see exactly what the AI will edit before you describe your change.
💎 Pro Tip: The more specific your selection, the more targeted the fix. Selecting a single element tells the AI exactly where to focus.
Step 3: Tell the AI What to Change
Once the chat area is open, the AI can do the following for you:
Read URLs. For example, "Take this article about company X and create a slide about them."
Make edits across all slides at once for consistent updates.
Change the theme of the presentation with a simple request.
Extract info from images. For example, screenshot an Excel table and ask the AI to recreate it in Gamma so it looks on-brand instead of like an Excel screenshot.
Add slides. For example, "Add an executive summary."
Fix spelling and grammar for better readability.
Translate text into another language.
Summarize content into a concise version.
Use custom commands with specific instructions (e.g., "Make this more formal").
Search the web for real-time information.
Step 4: Review and Apply Changes
Review the proposed edits in the before and after preview. Use the Original and Modified toggle in the chat area to compare your gamma before and after the edit. If your edit touches multiple slides at once, you can compare the before and after for all of them together.
Accept the changes, or restore the previous version if you want to go back to how things were. Changes from a single request are applied together, you cannot pick and choose individual edits.
If needed, refine your request and try again. The AI remembers your original goal, so follow-up fixes stay consistent with what you asked for at the start.
FAQs & Common Issues
Do I have to regenerate my gamma to fix one thing I don't like?
No. Ask for a targeted fix in the chat area, or switch into AI editing mode and select the element you want to change. The AI edits just that part while keeping the rest of your gamma intact.
Will the AI's edits match the rest of my gamma?
Yes. The AI keeps your original goal in context while editing, so fixes stay consistent with the content and style you started with.
How do I stop AI from rewriting my text?
Tell the Agent exactly what should stay the same. For example: "Keep my text exactly as written and only change the layout."
The Agent will apply your changes without rewording your content.
Can I see my gamma before and after an AI edit?
Yes. After the AI makes an edit, use the Original and Modified toggle in the chat area to compare the two versions. If the edit changed multiple slides, you can compare the before and after for all of them at once, and you can restore the previous version if you prefer how things were.
Why isn't the AI editing my content? / Why can't I send a message in the chat area?
Ensure you have an active internet connection.
The AI does not respond while content is being generated, wait for the process to finish.
Can I edit AI generated content manually?
Yes! After the AI makes edits, you can further refine them manually.
Can the AI format my text (bold, italics, lists, etc.)?
Absolutely! The AI can apply text formatting for you.
In the new Gamma, the AI can also make font and color changes as part of an edit, and theme-level changes only affect the current gamma thanks to file themes.
How long does my chat history last?
Your chat history is saved and does not expire. Open the chat area in the editor and scroll up to see earlier messages and edits from your session.
For very long conversations, the AI automatically condenses older messages so it can keep working without losing the thread. You do not need to clear or restart your chat.
Where is the editor, and which icon opens it?
Open any gamma from your dashboard to enter the editor. In Gamma 5, the editor has two modes: manual editing, where you click into cards and edit directly, and AI editing. Use the toggle in the top left of the editor to switch between them. First time visitors to the new editor also get a quick tour that points out the main controls.
Where is the sparkle icon?
In Gamma 5, AI editing is a mode rather than a single sparkle button. Switch to AI editing mode using the toggle in the top left of the editor, then click the element you want to change. The element shows as selected in the chat area, and you type your instruction there. After the edit you can use the Original/Modified toggle to compare before and after, and restore the previous version if you prefer it.
