Introduction
Image style references let you guide how Gamma generates images by uploading your own photos or visuals as inspiration. Instead of selecting a preset style or typing a description, you show Gamma exactly the aesthetic you're going for — and it takes it from there.
💎 Pro Tip: You can upload up to four reference images, but even a single image works great as a style guide.
What is an image style reference?
An image style reference is a photo or image you upload to influence the visual style of Gamma's AI-generated images. Think of it like handing a mood board to a designer — Gamma reads the colors, composition, and aesthetic feel of your reference and applies that style to new images it creates. This replaces the need to choose a Gamma image style preset or write your own style prompt from scratch.
How to use image style references
Image style references are available in two places: the Generate flow and standalone image generation.
Step 1: Open the image generation panel
From the Generate flow, start a new presentation and Generate outline
For standalone image generation, click the sparkle icon in the toolbar and select the image option.
Step 2: Upload your reference image(s)
Look for the image art style option. Click Add reference and select one to four photos from your device that represent the visual style you want.
🔷 Note: You can upload up to four images, but one is often enough to guide the style effectively.
Step 3: Generate your images
Once your reference image(s) are uploaded, proceed with generating your content as normal. Gamma will use your uploaded images to shape the visual style of the AI-generated images in your presentation.
🌀 Insight: The more consistent your reference images are in style and mood, the more accurately Gamma can match the aesthetic you're going for.
Plan availability and credits
Image style references are available on Pro, Ultra, Teams, and Business plans. Using image style references does not charge credits separately. Credits are charged based on the model used and the standard credits logic for the surface where you're generating images.
🔷 Note: Image style references are not available on the Free or Plus plan outside of promotional periods.
