What is Gamma for Slack?
The Gamma Slack app brings your presentation workflow into the tools your team already uses. Once installed, Gamma links shared in any channel automatically expand into rich previews, comment notifications arrive as direct messages you can reply to inline, and Slack's AI assistant can generate entirely new Gammas from a prompt.
🔷 Note: You need permission to add apps to your Slack workspace. If you don't have that access, contact your Slack admin.
How do I install Gamma for Slack?
Go to gamma.app/slack and click Add to Slack.
Authorize the app for your workspace. You'll receive a confirmation DM from the Gamma bot once it's installed.
To enable AI generation, go to Slack's AI settings, find Gamma under connected MCP servers, and sign in with your Gamma account when prompted.
💎 Pro Tip: Link previews and comment notifications work as soon as you install the app. AI generation requires one additional step: connecting your Gamma account via Slack's AI settings.
How do I generate a Gamma from Slack?
Once your Gamma account is connected via Slack's AI settings:
Open Slack's AI assistant (the AI panel or your Slackbot DM).
Describe what you want to make. For example:
"Make a deck summarizing our Q3 results."
"Create a one-pager on our product roadmap for a customer meeting."
Slack's AI calls Gamma and returns a link. The preview shows "Generating…" while your deck is being built.
Once ready, the preview updates automatically to show the finished gamma.
Click the link to open, edit, or share your deck in Gamma.
How do I search or summarize existing Gammas from Slack?
You can ask Slack's AI to read and reference content from your existing gammas. For example:
"Summarize my Q2 board deck."
"What does our company overview say about pricing?"
"Find my template for customer onboarding."
Slack's AI uses Gamma to pull the content and respond in the conversation — no need to open Gamma separately.
How do I reply to Gamma comments from Slack?
When someone comments on a Gamma you own, the Gamma bot sends you a direct message with the comment. Reply directly in that DM thread and your response is posted back to the Gamma as a comment.
How do Gamma link previews work in Slack?
When anyone shares a gamma.app link in a channel or DM, Gamma automatically expands it into a rich preview showing the title, thumbnail, and live generation status. No command is needed — sharing the link is the trigger.
What AI tools does Gamma for Slack include?
The Gamma Slack app connects to Gamma's AI tools through Slack's MCP integration. After connecting your account, Slack's AI can use the following on your behalf:
Tool | What it does |
Generate a gamma | Creates a new presentation, document, webpage, or social post from your prompt. |
Generate from template | Creates a new gamma by adapting one of your existing templates. |
Read a gamma | Reads the full content of an existing gamma so the assistant can reference or summarize it. |
Get gammas | Browses or searches your existing gammas. |
Get themes | Looks up available visual themes when you describe a style. |
Get folders | Browses or searches your gamma folders. |
Get generation status | Checks the status of an in-progress AI generation. |
FAQ and troubleshooting
The link isn't showing a preview.
Make sure the Gamma Slack app is installed in your workspace. If your workspace had an older version of the Gamma app, you'll need to reinstall it. Contact your Slack admin if you don't have permission to add apps.
The preview shows "Generating…" and never updates.
The generation may still be in progress or may have failed. Click the link to check the status directly in Gamma.
I'm getting "You don't have access to this gamma."
The person who shared the link doesn't have access to that deck. Ask the deck owner to share it with you.
I'm not seeing Gamma as an option in Slack's AI.
The MCP connectors and AI generation requires Slack's AI features to be enabled on your workspace plan. Check with your Slack admin.
I'm not getting comment notification DMs.
Make sure you've authorized the Gamma app in your workspace and that the Gamma bot hasn't been muted in your DMs.
