What is Gamma for Slack?
The Gamma Slack app brings your presentation workflow into the tools your team already uses. Once installed, Gamma links shared in any channel automatically expand into rich previews, comment notifications arrive as direct messages you can reply to inline, and Slack's AI assistant can generate entirely new Gammas from a prompt.

How do I install Gamma for Slack?
Go to gamma.app/slack and click Add to Slack.
Authorize the app for your Slack workspace.
Sign in to your Gamma account when prompted, and choose the Gamma workspace you want to connect.
That's it. You'll get a confirmation DM from the Gamma bot when you're connected, followed by a welcome message explaining what you can do.
💎 Pro Tip: Link previews and comment notifications work as soon as you install the app. AI generation requires one additional step: connecting your Gamma account via Slack's AI settings.
How do I generate a Gamma from Slack?
Mention @Gamma in any channel the app has been added to, or send the Gamma bot a direct message, and describe what you want:

Gamma reacts to your message while it works, then replies with a link to your finished gamma. Click through to open, edit, or share it.
Using a thread as context
Mention @Gamma inside a thread and it reads the conversation above as source material. This is the fastest way to turn a discussion into something shareable:

Using files as context
Attach a file to your message and Gamma will use its contents. You can attach files directly to the message that mentions Gamma, or Gamma will pick up files shared earlier in the same thread.
Supported file types: PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), plain text, Markdown, CSV, and JSON. You can include up to three files per request, each up to 20MB.
💎 Pro tip: Combine the two. Attach a research report in a thread and say "@Gamma build a 10-slide deck from this, focused on the pricing section" — the more specific your prompt, the better the result.
Can Gamma create images in Slack?
Yes. Ask Gamma for an image and it will generate one in the conversation:

Ask Gamma about work you already have:

Gamma pulls the content and answers in the conversation. Exports come back as a download link.
🔷 Note: Gamma can read, create, and export from Slack, but it can't edit an existing gamma there yet. Open the gamma in Gamma to make changes.
Can I use Gamma from Slack's AI assistant instead?
Yes. In addition to mentioning @Gamma, you can connect Gamma to Slack's own AI assistant:
Open Slack's AI settings.
Find Gamma under connected MCP servers and enable it.
Sign in with your Gamma account when prompted.
You can then ask Slack's AI assistant to create and read gammas the same way. This path requires Slack's AI features to be enabled on your workspace plan.
Who can see the gammas I create in Slack?
Gammas created from Slack start at your Gamma workspace's default access setting, the same as if you'd created them in Gamma.
Right after Gamma creates something for you, it offers a quick way to change that: you can share it with the people in the conversation, or with your whole Gamma workspace, and pick whether they can view, comment, or edit. Only you see this prompt.
If you skip it, the gamma keeps its default access and you can share it later from Gamma as usual.
🔷 Note: Your Slack account connects to one Gamma workspace at a time. Everything you create from Slack lands in that workspace. To switch, go through the connect flow at gamma.app/slack again and choose a different one.
How do Gamma link previews work in Slack?
Paste a gamma.app link anywhere in Slack and you'll get a rich preview with the title, thumbnail, and live status. This will work for in-progress generations too, and the preview refreshes itself when the gamma finishes. Previews respect your permissions: you'll only see a preview for a gamma you have access to. If you haven't connected Gamma yet, you'll see a prompt to connect instead of a preview.
How do I reply to Gamma comments from Slack?
When someone comments on a gamma you own, or on a comment thread you're a part of, the Gamma bot sends you a direct message with the comment. Reply directly in that DM thread and your response is posted back to the gamma as a comment.
How do I use Slack content as context in Gamma?
In addition to generating from Slack, you can connect Slack as a data source inside Gamma. Once connected, Gamma's Agent can pull from your Slack workspace when generating or editing content. For example, ask Agent to "Summarize the discussion in #product-strategy and turn it into a deck" and it will pull the relevant content directly.
What can Gamma access in my Slack workspace?
To do its job, the Gamma bot can read the messages and files in conversations where you use it, ie, the thread you mention it in, and files you attach or share in that thread. It reads Gamma links shared in channels in order to build previews, and reads replies in its own comment-notification DM threads so it can post them back to Gamma.
If you additionally connect Gamma to Slack's AI assistant, or connect Slack as a data source inside Gamma, that grants broader read access to your Slack content so Gamma can search and reference it. You can review the exact permissions during install, and your Slack admin can review them at any time in your workspace's app settings.

FAQs & Common Issues
The link isn't showing a preview.
Make sure the Gamma Slack app is installed in your workspace and that you've connected your Gamma account.
If your workspace had an older version of the Gamma app, you'll need to reinstall it.
Contact your Slack admin if you don't have permission to add apps.
A Gamma link posted by another bot or workflow isn't showing a preview.
Slack only asks Gamma to generate a rich preview when Slack sends Gamma a link-sharing event. Slack does not send that event for links posted by apps, bots, integrations, or automated workflows — including tools like Linear, GitHub, Zapier, or Slack workflows. That means if another app posts a
gamma.applink, Gamma may never be notified that the link was shared, so there is no Gamma preview to show. This is a Slack platform limitation, not a Gamma filter or privacy setting.Links posted by people in Slack should still preview as expected, as long as the Gamma Slack app is installed and the viewer has access to the gamma.
Classic Slack link previews may still appear for public Gamma links, but private gammas do not expose public preview content that Slack can crawl.
The preview shows "Generating…" and never updates.
The generation may still be in progress, or it may have failed.
Click the link to check the status directly in Gamma.
I'm getting "You don't have access to this gamma."
You don't have access to that gamma yet. Ask whoever shared it to give you access from Gamma.
My teammates can't open a gamma I made in Slack.
Gammas created from Slack start at your workspace's default access.
Use the share prompt Gamma shows you right after it creates something, or open the gamma and share it from there.
Gamma says it's busy, or that I'm sending requests too quickly.
Gamma handles one request per conversation at a time, and limits how many requests you can send in a short window.
Wait a moment and try again.
Gamma says I'm out of credits.
Creating from Slack uses your Gamma credits, the same as creating in Gamma.
Top up from your billing settings and try again.
I'm not seeing Gamma as an option in Slack's AI.
MCP connectors and AI generation require Slack's AI features to be enabled on your workspace plan.

Make sure you've authorized the Gamma app in your workspace and that the Gamma bot hasn't been muted in your DMs.
Can I edit an existing gamma from Slack?
Not yet. You can create, read, and export from Slack; open the gamma in Gamma to edit it.
