Introduction

This article explains how Gamma complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), what to do if your copyrighted material appears on Gamma without your permission, and how to file a formal notice. Understanding this process helps ensure your intellectual property is protected.

What is the DMCA?

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is a U.S. copyright law enacted in 1998. It is designed to protect copyrighted content in the digital environment by introducing anti-circumvention rules and a notice-and-takedown system for reporting online copyright violations.

For platforms like Gamma, the DMCA also offers a safe harbour provision, which limits liability for user-generated content—as long as Gamma complies with DMCA processes, such as responding promptly to takedown notices.

How to Report Copyright Infringement (File a DMCA Notice)

Step 1: Prepare a Valid DMCA Takedown Notice

Make sure your notice includes:

  • Your full name and contact information (address, phone number, email).

  • A description of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed.

  • The exact URL or location of the infringing content on Gamma.

  • A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.

  • A statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on their behalf.

  • Your signature (physical or electronic).

Step 2: Send the Notice to Gamma

Email the completed notice to: abuse@gamma.app

Step 3: Wait for Response or Action

Once Gamma receives your notice, we will review the claim and take appropriate action, which may include removing the reported content or reaching out to the user who posted it.

If the user believes the content was removed in error, they may file a counter-notice, and you will be informed accordingly.

FAQs & Common Issues

What if someone falsely claims my content is infringing?

  • Gamma allows the affected user to file a counter-notification if they believe the takedown was in error. If both parties submit valid notices, the matter may be referred to legal channels.

How long does it take to process a takedown request?

  • Requests are typically reviewed within a few business days. If your notice is incomplete or invalid, it may delay the process.
