Introduction
Already have content created elsewhere? Instead of starting from scratch, you can import documents or presentations from various sources directly into Gamma. This guide shows you how to import your work, whether manually or with help from Gamma AI.
What is Importing in Gamma?
Importing allows you to bring in content from outside sources and convert it into editable gamma cards. Gamma supports a wide range of sources, including files, webpages, Google Drive, and more. It’s a quick way to jumpstart your work with content you’ve already written.
How to Import Slides or Docs into Gamma
Step 1: Choose an Import Method
You can choose between two import options:
Option 1: Plain Import
Use this to pull in text content exactly as-is.
From your Gamma home screen, click Import.
Select the file type or platform you’re importing from (e.g., PowerPoint, Google Docs, Webpage URL, Notion).
Gamma will import the text into cards—one card per slide (for slides) or one per heading (for docs).
Option 2: Import with AI
Use AI to restyle or transform your content during import.
Click New with AI from the home screen.
Select Import.
Paste your content or upload a file.
Choose your theme and layout preferences.
Gamma AI will generate a newly styled presentation for you.
Step 2: Make Adjustments
Once imported, you can:
Edit the content
Add visuals
Use AI chat to rewrite or reformat cards
Apply a new theme or design layout
Debugging Import Issues
If something didn’t import correctly:
Try exporting your file as .docx or .pptx before importing.
You can also copy and paste directly into Gamma if the importer fails.
Use /split between sections to divide content into separate cards.

Export the file as a Word (.docx) or PowerPoint (.pptx) file and try importing that instead.

Yes! You can import public Notion docs, or simply copy and paste directly into Gamma.
How can I break up long imported text?
Use /split in your content to create a new card where you want a section break
